In March 2023, the Amancio Ortega Foundation and the Porque Viven Foundation presented the project for the first comprehensive care centre for pediatric palliative care (“hospice”) in Spain. The facility will allow for comprehensive and personalised care of children and teenagers affected by complex and chronic diseases that pose a serious threat to their lives.
The centre, promoted by the Porque Viven Foundation —which aims to develop pediatric palliative care alongside the public health services— will cover 15,000 m2 and be surrounded by another 5,000 m2 of gardens. Its construction will be funded by the Amancio Ortega Foundation.
The planned services for the centre, which will be built in the San Blas District of Madrid, include a 24-bed day centre, 30 rooms for admissions and 4 hospice apartments. It will also have complementary services, including a pharmacy, physiotherapy rooms, occupational therapy, hydrotherapy pool, psychological care for patients and family members, play and rest areas, multi-confessional space, etc.
